The Product That Started It All: Texture Balm
When I created Hairsauce, I wasn't trying to launch another hair product.
I was trying to solve a problem I'd seen every single day behind the chair.
After more than two decades as a hairstylist and barber, I'd worked with thousands of clients. No matter their hair type or style, the complaints were always similar. Styling products were either too greasy, too stiff, too difficult to wash out, or simply couldn't hold up throughout the day, especially in Singapore's heat and humidity.
I knew there had to be a better way.
So I decided to create it.
Three Years of Getting It Right
Texture Balm became the very first Hairsauce product, and it took nearly three years to develop.
I wasn't interested in rushing something to market. Every detail mattered—the texture, the finish, the hold, the way it emulsified in your hands, how easily it washed out, and most importantly, how it performed on real people, not just in a lab.
There were countless versions before I finally landed on the formula I was proud to put my name behind.
Built From Experience
Everything I know about hair has come from working with people.
For years, I've been cutting, styling, and consulting clients every single day. That experience taught me that most people don't want hair that feels like a helmet. They want their hairstyle to stay in place while still looking natural and feeling effortless.
That's exactly what I wanted Texture Balm to deliver.
A medium-to-firm hold.
A natural matte finish.
No greasiness.
No stiffness.
No heavy buildup.
Just healthy-looking hair that moves naturally while staying exactly where you styled it.
Made for Real Life
Living in Singapore taught me something important.
A styling product shouldn't only work in perfect conditions. It has to perform in real life—through humidity, long workdays, workouts, nights out, and everything in between.
Texture Balm was designed with that in mind.
It gives me the confidence that my hair will still look good hours after I've styled it, without feeling sticky or weighing it down.
More Than Just Hold
Performance has always been important to me, but so has how a product treats your hair.
I wanted something that applied effortlessly, washed out easily with water, and didn't leave residue behind. Something I could comfortably use every day without my hair feeling worse because of it.
For me, a styling product should enhance your hair—not fight against it.
The Foundation of Hairsauce
Looking back, Texture Balm wasn't just the first product I created.
It became the foundation of everything Hairsauce stands for.
Professional performance.
Simple, thoughtful formulas.
Everyday ease of use.
And products that help people look their best without compromising the health and feel of their hair.
Every product I've created since—from Wonder Mist to Remedy+—has followed the same philosophy that started with Texture Balm.
Why It Still Means So Much to Me
Even today, Texture Balm is the product I reach for every morning.
Not because I made it, but because it does exactly what I wanted it to do from the very beginning.
It makes styling simple.
It performs consistently.
And it reminds me why I started Hairsauce in the first place.
Creating Texture Balm wasn't about making another styling product.
It was about creating the product I always wished existed.
"Sauce" is about embodying your true self while playing a character. It's the art of authenticity with a twist-staying genuine in your core but amplifying certain traits to stand out. Like adding a unique flavor, it's the blend of who you are with who you want to present to the world, creating a presence that's both real and unforgettable.
